Using FSA & HSA Funds for ADHD/Executive Function Coaching

Did you know that ADHD/Executive Function Coaching may qualify for reimbursement through a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or a Health Savings Account (HSA)?

Your FSA or HSA May Help Cover Coaching

ADHD/Executive Function Coaching may be eligible for reimbursement through a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) when coaching is used to treat or manage a diagnosed condition that affects executive functioning. This may include ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, or other qualifying medical conditions. Because eligibility and documentation requirements vary by plan, clients should always confirm coverage with their FSA/HSA administrator or employer’s benefits department.

What are an HSA and FSA?

A Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) can help make eligible healthcare expenses more affordable by allowing you to set aside money on a pre-tax basis. HSAs are available to people enrolled in an HSA-qualified high-deductible health plan, and the money generally rolls over from year to year. FSAs are typically offered through an employer and may have different rules for using or carrying over unused funds. Both accounts can potentially be used for eligible healthcare expenses, depending on IRS guidelines and your individual plan.

2026 Contribution Limits

For 2026, the HSA contribution limit is $4,400 for individual coverage and $8,750 for family coverage. Individuals age 55 or older can contribute an additional $1,000. The 2026 health FSA limit is $3,400. There is no additional age-55 catch-up contribution for an FSA. Because employer plans can have their own rules, it is a good idea to check with your benefits administrator to understand your specific account.

How It Works

1. Confirm eligibility
Check with your FSA or HSA administrator to determine whether Executive Function Coaching may qualify under your plan and what documentation is required.

2. Obtain a Letter of Medical Necessity
A qualified medical practitioner must generally provide a Letter of Medical Necessity explaining the diagnosed condition, why coaching is medically necessary, and how the services will support treatment or management of the condition.

3. Submit documentation & use your funds
Once the required documentation has been submitted and approved, eligible coaching expenses may be reimbursed through your FSA or HSA. Keep receipts and any required documentation for your records.

What SOJO Can Provide

SOJO can provide documentation describing the nature, purpose, and cost of ADHD/Executive Function Coaching to support a client's request for FSA or HSA reimbursement. The medical practitioner determines medical necessity, while the FSA or HSA administrator determines whether an expense qualifies for reimbursement.

Please note: This information is provided for general educational purposes only. FSA and HSA rules vary by plan, and SOJO by Katie Vedova does not determine eligibility or guarantee reimbursement. SOJO is not a tax, accounting, or financial professional organization and cannot determine whether a particular service or expense qualifies for HSA or FSA reimbursement. Clients should confirm requirements with their benefits administrator or tax professional before paying for services or submitting a claim.
